Legalizing Prostitution in Britain Apparently if you go back through history, as far back as you can, as far back as we have records, you will find evidence of people selling sex for personal gain. It seems that prostitution has been around for a very long time and that the sex industry was thriving at least a few thousand years before the Industrial Revolution; a good deal longer than its name suggests. So, it comes as no shock to discover that, many people consider prostitution to be the oldest profession in the world and that in some ancient civilisations the sex trade positively flourished. Many sex workers (mostly women) are not working out of their own free will and, aside from the brutal realities of being sex slaves, are subjected to further abuse, drugs and rape. Each year, several thousand wo men are trafficked from Eastern European countries for prostitution in sex industry centres all over the world.
